Applications in hygiene, detergents

Calcium carbonate increases in value when used in detergent production because of its hardness: the hardness of calcium carbonate is only 3 Moh while that of silica: 7 Moh.

In the detergent market, there are two main types of consumer applications: powders and creams. Calcium carbonate in powder production makes it more slippery than other minerals. Creams require a lighter and finer calcium carbonate than powders.
